As Winter Moves In

Clouds crowd above branches stripped bare
In Winter’s stark stare.
Silence murmurs through cold air
As if Nature doesn’t care.

Where are the leaves when we need them
To guard us against wind and frost?
They have fled, taken cover in the ground below,
To leave us alone and lost.
